Depmod: FATAL with kernel update

zypper dup brought new error with kernel update:

# Additional rpm output:
# depmod: ERROR: could not open directory /var/tmp/weak-modules2.IgXJDs/6.3.9-1-default/usr/lib/modules/6.3.9-1-default: No such file or directory
# depmod: FATAL: could not search modules: No such file or directory
# depmod exited with error 1

Works here. The first obvious thing to check - free space on /var/tmp.

It does work. /var/log/zypp/history says kernel “installed ok” despite depmod fatal error.

# 2023-06-27 05:28:55 kernel-default-6.3.9-1.1.x86_64.rpm installed ok
# Additional rpm output:
# depmod: ERROR: could not open directory /var/tmp/weak-modules2.IgXJDs/6.3.9-1-default/usr/lib/modules/6.3.9-1-default: No such file or directory
# depmod: FATAL: could not search modules: No such file or directory
# depmod exited with error 1

36 GiB of free space on /var/tmp/

There is directory /usr/lib/modules/6.3.9-1-default/
But there is no directory /var/tmp/weak-modules2.IgXJDs

I got the same error here. The initramfs was created nevertheless, but the whole upgrade transaction aborted. I could boot the system and invoked a # snapper rollback. Then I set a lock on kernel-default.
