Dependency resolution failed

Hello everyone,

Why does opensuse have this problem? When trying to update, a popup says “Dependency resolution failed”. But it doesn’t get on with the rest of the updates for which the dependencies are fine: it just quits all of them. Which is ridiculous. It also says “more details can be found on the detailed report”, but it very unhelpfully doesn’t tell you where this report is. It also doesn’t allow you to cut the text from this box to put into a search engine, which is maddening.

Many thanks for any help with this.

I suppose you are talking about the desktop’s updater here.
Well, that uses PackageKit, which is a cross-distribution tool, so it is not perfectly integrated into openSUSE nor supports all details/features of openSUSE’s package management. In particular doesn’t support manual dependency resolution like YaST or zypper but just aborts in case of conflicts.

Run “zypper up” to get a more detailed error message.
Post the output if you need help.

And your repo list would probably be interesting then too:

zypper lr -d
