depency problem prevent kde from starting

Hi There,

I updated my packages in yast (kde) and wanted to reboot x while this was going… anyways, I hit abort in yast and said okay to the messages that appeared and i got the update process seeminly aborted properly, I wanted to restart x and BANG no kde is coming up anymore, i don’t even get to the graphical login anymore but when i say “startx” i get the kde 4.1 splash for a few seconds before i find myself thrown back on the shell, what it displays there is

a few warnings like Warning: No symbols defined for <I64> (keycode 228)

I’ve tried to reupdate the packages with yast on the console but they look as if they were updated already even tho they were not (cause i aborted)…how can i get back on?

If you can run Yast, run a update all unconditionally of ALL packages

Well maybe. I just assumed you were on a high speed line. If not, just start with:

sudo rpmdb --rebuilddb

if that doesn’t help, then update kde unconditionally and keep going thru the repo’s, concentrate on where you were when you had this urge to abort.

Hey there,

The error log shows:

Cannot mix incompatible Qt libraries

Looks like some QT components where updated but others were no and other KDE packages, etc. are likely looking for versions that don’t exist, etc.

Your best bet is to do the update on all packages as suggested so all dependencies and updates can complete. Sorry, but it would otherwise require looking it various KDE and QT lib components and is likely far more trouble that it is worth.

Well I updated unconditionally the KDE4 base packages and got back onto a KDE desktop. With a very unstable plasma and a panel that is not working so i fired up yast and i’m updating now all the packets with never versions available… takes some time here…i’ll know more tomorrow…

I’ve been experiencing terrible KDE 4 performance since I got my desktop back. I can’t use the panel or any other plasma elements at all, they are in a “hung” state… I see the panel on the bottom but the time and the tasks are old and are not being updated. The K-Menu or any other elements on it don’t work. I updated with yast to the latest version…Dolphin tells me that’s 4.1.3 - but Dolphin is weird too, it doesn’t display any files in my home folder but it does in root. And there is content in my hom,e folder but it’s not displaying it :frowning: Also when i make an “ls -la” in my home folder it hangs and doesn’t display anything…oh man, what went wrong here??? I don’t klnow how i can resolve this problems…

Try this from a icewm login, it will set a new kde4 user settings folder

from a terminal:

mv /home/username*/.kde4 .kde4old

login to kde4

hm, this didn’t help at all, it came back up with the same not working panel and plasma at all. Uhm that’s by the way what it did when i reinstalled kde4 base as well, my kde4 settings were all lost…So there must be something else hanging up that stuff, any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What about trying this as su from a terminal

rpmdb --rebuilddb

then:

zypper up

Dude you have a right mess in there, repo’s all over the place. Clean it up so you have just ONE of each needed.
Then do update all unconditionally, esp in the QT and check kde4’s

To be honest it’s hard to see the wood for the trees.

If I were you I would delete them all ( you have copy of the ones you have been using now you pasted here in the forum) Leave the Nvidia and Packman if you want

First remove and replace the Update repo as there have been some issues, add this back by url: Index of /update/11.0

Look in Yast - Software Management
Filter by repo
Each repo is in a list on the left - the packages show on the right
Visit each repo and see if there are any Red or Blue.

If there are - click the check box
apply

If there are none. All I can suggest is a system wide forced update of all packages.

Okay,

What I did y-day is, I updated all packages where nevqwer versionas were available and then i hit update on all packages that showed up red and now in the middle of doing this update i’m running out of space on my / disk…:open_mouth: CRAP! It’s a 20 GB partition and i don’t know what else large is on there other than my system… i have an own /home partition where all the stuff is saved… any clue how i can clean this up or figure out what i can clean up without aborting the update procedure? >:(

Go to /tmp
delete all the folders you can in there
