I have a dell studio 15 laptop with a dell wireless 1510 wireless-n wlan mini-card and I have not been able to get the wireless up and running.
I have tried the broadcom drivers, b43, hybrid, etc… this only allowed me to recognize the normal broadcom gigabit ethernet card. Dell is also NO HELP with this. they said (even though they ship systems with ubuntu) they cannot help with linux issues.
Has anyone had success with these dell wireless cards?
“The Intel 5100 wireless controller, like the 4500MHD, is not yet supported by Linux. Support for this controller will be available in the upcoming kernel version 2.6.27”
Reference the 2.6.27 kernel and openSUSE, there will be live CDs of openSUSE-11.1 beta4, where that openSUSE release comes with the 2.6.27 kernel. How about someone giving that liveCD a try now to see if it works with the Intel 4500 MHD. The torrents will be seeded on monday 3-Nov with the openSUSE-11.1 beta 4 live CD, and if one knows where to look, one can download the liveCD now.
I confess my curiosity is driven by selfish interests. I am in the market for a laptop, and one of the laptops I am considering (the HP 6730S) comes with the Intel 4500 MHD. Before I purchase a new laptop, I am curious to know the current status of this chipset support …
Speaking as a complete noob when it comes to wireless support in Linux, but does the ndiswrapper stuff work? My first attempt at it with a noname cheapo Realtek 8187 USB wireless couldn’t have gone any better. Install kndiswrapper, pick the .inf file from the downloaded driver and boom, I was connected.
sorry for the belated reply, It has been a busy stretch and I havent had time to check back but I hope this works so I can dump vista for a while it is drivin me mad…
torrent is downloading now, check for updates in coming weeks if your still interested…
Despite the OpenSuSE 11.0 works fine with Linux STA driver the new 11.1 version fails:
/root/i/hybrid_wl/src/wl/sys/wl_iw.c:1016: error: too few arguments to function ‘iwe_stream_add_value’
bla-bla-bla
I am trying to compile the hybrid wlan driver because the b43 works not stable - I have such messages each couple minutes:
v1400 kernel wlan0 associated
v1400 kernel wlan0 deauthenticated
v1400 kernel wlan0 authenticate with AP 00.XX.XX.XX.XX.12
v1400 kernel wlan0 authenticated
v1400 kernel wlan0 associate with AP 00.XX.XX.XX.XX.12
v1400 kernel wlan0 RX ReassocResp from 00.XX.XX.XX.XX.12 (capab=0x431 status=0 aid=44)
OpenSuSE 11.1 (since yesterday and still disappointed yet ), Dell Vostro 1400.
These packages contain Broadcom’s IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n hybrid Linux device driver for use with Broadcom’s BCM4311-, BCM4312-, BCM4321-, and BCM4322-based hardware.
i cant get the packman packages to install. keeps saying all these failed dependacies! (net_core, different kernels, net_wireless_arch_x86) and more. i have absolutely no internet on the laptop and dailup on the computer i using now. i only have the opensuse dvd to use…
