Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to try installing OpenSuse on the new Dell Studio Hybrid systems? I’d like to get one but I like to know if there are any problems with installing it?

Since that machine is brand spanking new (I doubt anyone has one except
some people at/close to Dell)… might need to give this some time.

I am curious. What is it about the Studio Hybrid that you like/need?
I mean it’s a pretty poor performer… typical of almost any of the
ultra SFF computers out there.
I like that it’s low power and the environmental considerations like recyclable materials. I’m also enamored by the bamboo case lol. I realize it’s a low performance machine, but i’ve been using a 6 year old Dell Optiplex G260 for awhile so anything is an improvement.

I think they are cute… I think you’ll actually be quite pleased
with the performance BOOST in your case :).
I would think that they’d work just fine with openSUSE… but again,
I doubt any have tried (??).
IMHO, I think getting the 3 year warranty (with Complete Care if
available) would be wise on those… just like what you’d want with
any laptop.
The short answer to your question is: Not Yet. I bought a Studio Hybrid for $350 at Best Buy and I’m trying to load OpenSUSE 11.1 on it. If I add x11failsafe to the boot options, it seems to work fine. I’m fairly inexperienced (haven’t done a kernel build), and I’m not sure how to proceed further in achieving full functioning video. I see other computers with the Intel 965GM chipset have achieved compatibility, but the Studio Hybrid problem hasn’t been cracked yet. Perhaps soon.
I tried few week ago, 11.0 and 11.1, but it doesn´t work with the video, I tried with Fedora 10 and 11 and have the same issue.
I tried with Ubuntu 8.04 (is not my favorite distro :-S… but here it works, but after install this distro I used the 1024x768 prior to go to full resolution, first before to go to the full resolution, you need to upgrade to 8.10 and update your intel drivers… then you can work with all your monitor resolution…
I’m waiting for news in OpenSUSE for new Intel drivers…
