Dell Optiplex 390 SATA DVD not recognised after kernel boot from openSUSE-12.1-DVD-x86_64.iso disk

Hi all,

Whilst I am able to initially launch the OpenSUSE installation DVD just fine, attempting to install (or verify the installation media) boots the kernel and then the wheels come off. The DVD drive can no longer be recognised. The installer reports that there is no disk in the drive and just repeatedly instructs you to insert CD1.

Here is a relevant snippet from /var/log/boot.msg:

Full log available if required.

I note this Ubuntu bug report that seems to be the same issue which, amongst other things, includes this driver patch that purportedly fixes it. I also note this current thread in this forum that sounds very similar.

Does anyone know is this is a known issue already and if there’s likely to be an updated installer release that will fix this ?

Cheers,
Simon.
