It works in other distributions? WHAT other distributions ? Did you have to do anything special on those distributions? What application did you use to test in those other distributions?
What openSUSE version are you using (I can’t tell from your post) ? What desktop are you using ? (kde ? gnome ? lxde ? xfce ? I can’t tell from your post) ?
What application are you running to say it does not work in openSUSE? Did you try running wxcam? It is packaged by Packman packagers Did you try running kopete (if using KDE) ?
saw what in Kopete ? Do you mean you saw a video from the Webcam in Kopete on the other distributions? Do you mean you saw nothing in kopete on openSUSE?
I can NOT tell what desktop you are using from what you provided. … Please read my post again and answer the questions I asked. Thanks!
hmmm is tough now … i tryed ubuntu w/ cheese on live CD and the webcam not worked … no device found
i made **** … i had the monitor changed and i think that the webcam short-circuited…
but the man how change the monitor said to put the drivers manually … the drivers i have installed by the repository
also i use KDE in opensuse
first microdia i think that is a card reader
secondly , i tried to boot ubuntu live and install cheese to see if the camera working and the answer is no
futhermore , i tried to detective the camera from skype and kopete and dont worked
also when i had kubuntu in kopete was working ( it was b4 the accident )
now when i run the wxcam w/ gui i got
Cannot open /dev/video0.
Please check if your system has the correct driver for your webcam, or change the webcam device in settings->preferences.
Do you have a USB card reader? Often card readers are PCI.
No, I think that 0c45:6310 Microdia is your webcam. Take a look here: Wrong palette with V4L2 : ZoneMinder (post at Posted: Wed Dec 17, 2008 11:44 am , where they claim it to be a uvc compatible webcam).
I’m thinking your 0c45:6310 Microdia may in fact be a Microdia/Sonix webcam which would mean something like the SN9C101, SN9C102, SN9C102P, SN9C103, SN9C105, SN9C110, SN9C120, SN9C201, SN9C202 controllers … Hence you could try installing the rpm with kernel modules “sn9c20x-kmp” which you can find links to here: software.opensuse.org: Search Results for Sn9
You need to grab the one that is applicable to your kernel module, install it, reboot and test.
Having typed that, simply purchasing a UVC compliant webcam may be easier than messing with this specific one.
Now despite my providing links to those threads, I note support for this webcam under Linux is not as good as what one can get with a UVC compatible webcam.
OpenSource drivers, also present in the official Linux kernel includes the SONiX SN9C1xx PC Camera Controllers (Video4Linux2-only) and it also notes other drivers (not included in the kernel) are the SONiX Microdia SN9Cxxx PC Camera Controllers, Video4Linux1 & Video4Linux2 (with a note to READ THE FAQ - http://www.linux-projects.org/downloads/FAQ.html )
