dell inspiron 1501 broadcom 4311

hi,

I did find many answers to that problem already and tried several times to fix it, but I still can’t find any network connection.

I’ve got wireless lan. the dsl router is an acer 11g.
my desktop pc easily connects to that network.

but I am not able to install the right drivers on my notebook.

I did use this archive broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2
then I installed the firmware wl_apsta_mimo.o with fw-cutter.
but nothing did change.

when I type iwlist scan:

lo - Interface does not support scanning
eth0 - Interface does not support scanning
wmaster0 - Interface does not support scanning
wlan0 - Interface does not support scanning : Network is down

YaST2 shows the network card as BCM4311b/G WLAN.
It is in “none IP” mode. It does start automatically on bootup.

Have I forgot to do something important?

Thanks in advance

i did reinstall my system with gnome.
just installed the linux drivers (name of the archive in post). and it did run. sorry. its obselete.

For the record, your initial problem was due to you not configuring
the network. That is why the network was down.
