Dell Inspiron 1440 DVD drive

A friend of mine own a Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop. Everything is working pretty fine except the DVD drive. According to my friend whenever he put in any disc, the drive tray ejects itself, It happens randomly. He scanned his laptop and there is no any virus or spyware. Can’t figure out what else to check. Need your help to fix this problem.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Virus and spyware in Linux?
Or is this a windows machine?

Its a windows machine…

One way to test the hardware’s operation is the following.

Prepare opensuse 11.2 Live USB memory stick.

Boot from the stick. You shall get opensuse running.

Check the functionality of the DVD drive.

Are you saying, if you cold boot with a openSUSE live CD it still ejects?

I’m sorry, don’t want to be rude, but I don’t see what this has to do in the openSUSE forums? It’s about a windu machine malfunctioning on any disc.
I think you’re better of in the manufacturor support pages or one of the numerous windu fora.
