Dell e6520, 11.4: Touchpad: no multitouch or edge scroll.

Dell Latitude e6520, Quad core i7, 8G RAM, OpenSuSE 11.4 fully updated. Xorg is v7.6. KDF (4.7) installed.

Kernel is : 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2011-07-21 02:17:24 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64

This is new machine. Installed SuSE 11.4 yesterday, and everything works beautifully, except that the touchpad only has basic functionality. Edge scrolling and multi-touch don’t work.

Trying GSynaptics fails, saying that…

GSynaptics couldn’t initialize.
You have to set ‘SHMConfig’ ‘true’ in xorg.conf or XF86Config to use GSynaptics

And I have no idea how or where to do that in the new xorg.conf.d setup.

Using the KDE system setting> touchpad fails, saying that no touchpad is found. Trying Sax3 just segfaults.

Is there a guide/how-to for this, as it seems to be a fairly frequent question?

Thanks,

Paul
