Deleting account on the forums

Hi guys. How do you go about deleting your account on the forums here? I’ve been trying to change my password, followed the FAQ as well as the suggestions in this forum, but it’s not working and is a helluva silly dance to be honest. So I’m at the point where if I can’t successfully change the password easily, then I have to request my account be deleted.

I still use openSUSE and the forums, but I really need to be able to change my password without such a merry-go-round. Many thanks.

We typically don’t delete accounts, because that leaves messages unowned,
disrupting existing threads.

Changing your password isn’t a difficult thing, though - it’s in the FAQ:

http://forums.opensuse.org/faq.php?faq=novfor#faq_changepass

While you may think that this is unusual, this method of handling
passwords is what protected your password when the forums were recently
hacked using a zero-day exploit against the vBulletin forum software.
Because your password isn’t stored in the vBulletin database, your
password was not compromised - nor were those of the 70,000 other
registered users here.

Firstly; cool. That’s awesome news. Very pleased to read that, and that is some explanation as to why it’s so difficult to change. Thank you for that. However, following any of the guides around the site results in me being told the new password I have selected needs to feature more than 6 characters, upper and lower case letters, and numbers and symbols. Well the password I generated in KeePassX 0.43 fits all of criteria but I still get this message. It is very frustrating but if the message board is as secure as stated then I will leave as-is and forget my endeavours. Thanks for replying.

That’s very strange - I’ll pass this along to the tech guys and see
what’s up. Since you weren’t able to set the password to what was
requested, would you mind posting a sample of a generated password that
failed so they can investigate why it wasn’t acceptable?
