I have a file on my external USB hard drive called extlinux.sys. I don’t know how it got there but I can’t delete it as root and I can’t change the permissions either.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Problem solved using “chattr -i extlinux.sys”. Never used this command before.

i am waiting to see how your system reacts, and wonder what put it
there and what happens after you deleted it…
well, it has been my policy if i “don’t know how it got there” then it
was probably put there by something smarter than me and i best leave
it alone UNTIL i know how it got there, what it does, and what might
happen if i try to remove it…
if i can’t remove it using VERY little force i leave it until i have
to throw the hard drive away…or, i find out how it got there, what
it does and etc etc etc…
ymmv, and you luck my be better than most…
