Delete sound ?

Hi.I want to know if I have done deleting the sound correctly on my system.I want to do that, because I seam to have difficult setting things up.I deleted the sound from Yast. Then I deleted the files in /etc/modprobe.d with sound in them. And I finally removed the soundcard from the BIOS.Then I want to set it up again.Enable it in the BIOS.Setup sound in Yast, and please how to do that correctly. Thanks!

Well, you can Delete the sound device configuration from YaST as well:

http://paste.opensuse.org/view/download/72760587

Upon restart, it will come back if its there. Removing a sound device will reset all of your sound settings. What ever you do, don’t uninstall sound software while messing with hardware. I have a couple of blogs for sound you might want to look at:

PulseAudio and Selecting the Proper Sound Card Configuration - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

AND

S.T.A.R.T. - SuSE Terminal Audio Reporting Tool - Version 1.11 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

Thank You,

Thank you for your reply to my queries. Ok with delete/not to delete. I
have your S.T.A.R.T installed since days.

But I cannot get the mic to persist.

I’ll also folow oldcpu’s advice in another thread.

Yes, do have a look at oldcpu’s blog post on the subject. I can tell you that making some certain changes to your active sound device can cause other settings to be reset. Try it only after all other things are right and restart to check your mic. Good luck.

Thank You,

Thanks for the reply. I will see at oldcpu’s blog post. I got the mic to
work, and now I try to have another soundcard up running for another
device I have.

BTW would be nice wrt

/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh
\code]

To have the parts of the output devided by one or 2 lines.
