Default setting of User Profile

Hi,

This is the first time I am using forum.

I am using SUSE 11.0 I dont know which settings I made but for one of the user I am not able to see the blue bar which has minimize, maximize, close bar.

I tried to replace .bashrc other related files by creating new user but the problem still exists.

Kindly help me to know what are the user profile related files and what might be the cause for this.

Thanks,
Mann

Is this happening in all applications?
Are you using kde3/4 or gnome?
Are you using Compiz?

I suppose it is a problem with composite-effects, try switching them off to test that. If it is working then, some option in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf is missing, so please post it.

Just a (offtopic) hint: openSUSE 11.0 is about to → fall out of support soon.

Thanks for the support its happening in every application for the user but for other user thats not the case. yes I am using Compiz. As per /etc/X11/xorg.conf is consider i did not touch that file.

I copied /etc/X11/xorg.conf.install file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf but still the problem persists. then i created a new user and checked there every thing is working fine.

I am using Gnome.

Thanks,
Mann

Did you try turning OFF desktop effects on this problem account?

Bashrc is the config for the bash shell not the GUI!

If just one user then something has gone wrong in the users gnome configuration. The fastest and easiest way to correct is to rename ~/.gnome to ~/.gnome.old where ~ iws the problem user home directory. boot you change to a terminal log in as root
mv /home/usersnamehere/.gnome /home/usersnamehere/.gnome.old
reboot

log in as the problem user you will have to reset up the GUI to the users liking.

Thanks for your replies.

I tried by making desktop effects off still the problem persists

i deleted the .gnome2 directory and again login after reboot the same problem persists.

unable to trace the exact problem for the account.

Thanks,
Mann

There should be also just a .gnome directory. I know .gnome2 is also there but not sure what goes in it. .gnome is the main configuration directory.

But maybe someone that knows gnome better then I should jump in.

Since the problem is with only one user it must be corrupted config files in .gnome

.gnome2 is one of the main config folders. Unlike kde, gnome seems to have a number to select
.gconf

Did you try a new user account?
Does it solve the issue?

Hi
Normally this happens when desktop effects are enable and the window
decoration check box has not been set in Compiz Config Settings
Manager (ccsm).

To ensure desktop effects are disabled, logout, then press ctrl+alt+F1
and login as your user, then;

rm ~/.config/compiz/enable-compiz
touch ~/.config/compiz/disable-compiz
exit

Then press ctrl+alt+F7 and login.

But how to rectify what went wrong is Compiz coz it works fine for other user.

Best Regards,

Hi
If you logout of the desktop, then press ctrl+alt+F1 and login as your
user, then;

cd .config/compiz
rm -rf compizconfig*
exit

Press ctrl+alt+F7 and login and redo you compiz settings.

If enable the Compiz settings its going to square one. the blue bar is disabled.

not its clear that compiz is creating that problem but which setting in compiz makes that to happen its not clear.

Thanks,
Mann

Hi
Start CompizConfig Settings manager. You need to ensure the window
decorations box is checked in the Effects section.

Hello mannmaniyar,

I had some equal looking problems in older versions.
OpenSUSE 11.2 was the first version for me
with compiz desktop effects from the start running
and without even temporally the ‘seeing no window bar’ problem.

In openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 6 and 7 I had an other problem if the compiz desktop effects were turned on (see: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=597596).

Sorry I seem to have missed some postings

Just to be sure may I be so bold to ask precisely?

Good luck

  1. Control Center>Compiz Config Set…=CompizConfig Setting Manager (CCSM)>Effects : Window Decoration [x]

  2. If this works not you may also try:
    Control Center>Compiz Config Set…>Utility : Workarounds [x]

  3. If 1. and 2 works not
    you may also try:
Control Center>Compiz Config Set…>Utility : Workarounds [click on the word]>

and choose some still unabled workarounds (for the beginning just one more at the time)

Sorry I may not remember it but
have you written jet
which graphic card you are using?

Good luck
