Default instalation leap 16 error

Problem Installing Leap 16 on VirtualBox is truly frustrating.
Choosing the default options for the disk and partitions—the system simply does not boot. I have tested this on several computers and the result is always the same: No operating system.

Any suggestion?

Did you select a desktop environment. That is an basic error, if you forget to choose a DE, no boot ( only terminal).

I also have Leap 16.0 in VB. No issues.

Technically it does boot. “Boot” is

  • from bootloader loaded
  • to default.target reached
  • This can be either the tty login prompt, or the DM login screen.

But this is a regularly returning confusion.

“What was happening was that after the installation, when I selected the option ‘boot from hard drive’, the system would not start and displayed the error: ‘The virtual machine failed to boot’, together with a mount option.
I removed the floppy and DVD boot options in VirtualBox, and that solved the issue.”

That’s the procedure I’ve been using for years.

AAMOF, when I’m creating the VM (before installation), I uncheck the Floppy entry, since it’s never ever used.

Then, after installation is done and the installer offers to reboot, I do so, then shut off the VM. In settings, uncheck DVD entry, then start the VM.
