Dbus spamming logfile

Hi all,

Tumbleweed X64, with latest updates via zypper dup as of 2024-06-30.

On one of my systems dbus is spamming /var/log/messages :

type o2024-06-30T23:16:45.613213+01:00 traken dbus-daemon[3112]: [session uid=501 pid=3112] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.Notifications' requested by ':1.21' (uid=501 pid=3296 comm="xfce4-power-manager --restart --sm-client-id 27852")

I’m guessing this has something to do with xfce4-power-manager. I’ve tried re-installing it with yast. running xfce-4power-manager from a console reports “Xfce Power Manager: Another power manager is already running”

Any ideas what the problem could be.

Cheers.

It is clear enough - a program that implements org.freedesktop.Notifications fails to start. Check /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.Notifications.service what program it tries to invoke.

I looked in /usr/share/dbus-1/services but no org.freedesktop.Notifications.service file there, I have

/usr/share/dbus-1/services
traken{services}# ls org.freedesktop.*
org.freedesktop.Akonadi.Control.service
org.freedesktop.ColorHelper.service
org.freedesktop.FileManager1.service
org.freedesktop.Flatpak.service
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.desktop.gnome.service
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.desktop.gtk.service
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.desktop.kde.service
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.desktop.lxqt.service
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.desktop.wlr.service
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.PermissionStore.service
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.Secret.service
org.freedesktop.mate.Notifications.service
org.freedesktop.PackageKit.service
org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop.service
org.freedesktop.portal.Documents.service
org.freedesktop.portal.Flatpak.service
org.freedesktop.portal.Tracker.service
org.freedesktop.secrets.service
org.freedesktop.systemd1.service
org.freedesktop.Telepathy.AccountManager.service
org.freedesktop.Telepathy.Client.Logger.service
org.freedesktop.Telepathy.Client.Polari.service
org.freedesktop.Telepathy.ConnectionManager.idle.service
org.freedesktop.Telepathy.Logger.service
org.freedesktop.Telepathy.MissionControl5.service
org.freedesktop.Tracker3.Miner.Files.Control.service
org.freedesktop.Tracker3.Miner.Files.service
org.freedesktop.Tracker3.Writeback.service

Could the problem be because that file is missing?

Cheers.

Phill.
