dbf_dump

Hello,

I’m migrating from Ubuntu and have several command files which rely on the dbf_dump utility to extract data for loading into PostgreSQL. I’m shocked that I cannot find this utility in the SuSE distro. Does anyone know where to obtain a SuSE version? I’m running 11.1 64-bit if that makes a difference.

It seems to be related to the XBase Perl package:

man XBase (3pm) - Perl module for reading and writing the dbf files - Linux Manual - Digipedia

If you don’t find it in any OpenSUSE repos, then I guess you would have to get it from CPAN and rebuild.

what would be the difference between dbf_dump and db_dump?

primary

dbf_dump is a perl module that allows you to create CSV files of specific fields from an XBASE file.

Unable to find a download link for dbf_dump to rebuild. Oddly enough, the Ubuntu documentation claims it is a Perl module, so I don’t understand why it isn’t included in the SuSE distro.

Found it!

For whatever reason it is named DBFDUMP in SuSE distro.

Well there are literally thousands of CPAN modules and opsnSUSE cannot hope to include them all. That’s where the OBS comes in, and where volunteers can take over some of the maintenance.

Anyway glad you found it.
