I don’t get it. Can you please elaborate on what you did?

Uwe

I klicked the “X” Botten right down on my Desktop - Dashboard. now i dont find a resolution to restore my Dasboard -pannel right back on my desktop. i think it is a java-script, but i onderstand java programming.

Can you tell us what version of openSUSE you’re using, and the desktop manager you’re using (KDE, GNOME, XFCE)?

And if you can get a screenshot that would also help.

SuSE 11.1 - KDE 4.2.68 sv98… latest updates

Screen shot ? you see only a desktop without a “Dashboard” the rest is absolute normal

Do you actually mean the PANEL? I think that what is confusing us.

I think you’re right Caf4926

Alright, so all you need to do is right click on the desktop and choose Add Panel.

Then right click on the panel and add these widgets

Application Launcher
Pager
Task Manager
System Tray
Device Notifier
Digital Clock

I think those are all the default widgets. Anyhow that will at least get you back a working panel. You can add or remove widgets from it as you see fit.

Hope this helps!

Ian

Anybody checked his/her own desktop? Right click anywhere outside the panel, click Unlock widgets if applicable, click Add widgets, pick Folderview, click Close, and it’s back. When it’s showing your home folder instead of your desktop, open the widgets options, check Desktop Folder, click OK, done.

Sure, e.g. Plasma has a dashboard. But that’s obviously not what the original poster is talking about.

Uwe

you are correct…though i had to look up ‘plasma’ to see what that is
and how it relates to Linux…i guess it is just another word for
KDE4, no?

kinda reminds me of the old “everything is an object” idea in the
1990’s “object desktop” of OS/2 Warp…desktop objects could be
documents, images, application, links, etc etc etc…

No, it is a part of KDE4.

Martin,

okay, that’s a plasma widget.
Right click the desktop, “Unlock Widgets”, then “Add widgets”. The one you want to add is “Folder View”.

Add it, then edit the properties to have it show the folder you want: By default it shows your “home” content.
