Danish Server

hi,

this is the first time i am using opensuse (11,2/64bit)

i used synaptic before and it was able to let me choose the fastest server for downloading updates/packages…right now i download the packages/updates from the default server and it is bloody slow…i live in denmark and i was wondering how to download from a danish server or if yast (or zypper? is it called zypper?) is able to choose for me the fastest server?
thanks already

By default d.o.o (where the default repository target resides) re-directs to the geographically closest server - in your case in Denmark or one of the nearby countries.

If for some reason the mirror it is re-directing you to is unbearably slow, you can change the repositories to point at one of the alternative ones; Mirror - openSUSE

i would like to add klid from the list how do i do that? also after that should i disable the default?

You can disable the default ones and manually add them via Software Repositories in YAST or by zypper from the command line.

If the ones you manually add work fine, just remove the disabled ones completely.

alright but i try to add this URL http://ftp.klid.dk/ftp/opensuse/ and it says “unable to create repository”. anything i am doing wrong?

You have to point it to the repository itself, for example for oss;

http://ftp.klid.dk/ftp/opensuse/distribution/11.2/repo/oss/

for non-oss;

http://ftp.klid.dk/ftp/opensuse/distribution/11.2/repo/non-oss/

for updates;

http://ftp.klid.dk/ftp/opensuse/update/11.2/

Edit:
Hate auto-URLing :slight_smile:
