D-Link DWA-547 + MadWifi

I have a problem configuring an Access Point on openSuSE 11.1 with D-Link DWA-547 device. I’ve installed the latest MadWifi and now, when I’m trying

wlanconfig wlan0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode ap

I get

wlanconfig ioctl: no such device

Can anybody help me to configure an AP properly?

Not quite sure what you mean. Are you trying to make a p.c. an access point or you have an access point you are trying to set up ? If the former have a look here Linux Wireless Access Point HOWTO Linux.com :: Create a secure Linux-based wireless access point Building a wireless access point on Linux Build A Linux-Based Wireless Access Point If it is the latter, most Access Points have a web interface which you can use to set it up,providing you have a wired connection to it first. If you are just trying to get an ip address from your A.P./router, you must make sure the wireless device is correctly installed with all the firmware/drivers

I’m trying to make a PC an Acces Point. Thanx for these HOWTOs, I’ve read them, but still can;t understand what;s wring with my adapter… It seems that MadWifi cannot support my adapter properly…
I cannot use wlanconfig to create new wifi interface with wlanmode “AP”, I cannot use “iwconfig wlan0 mode Master” - get an error “SET failed on device wlan0”, I cannot start hostapd.

So, an Ad-Hoc mode seems to work properly, but I have several PCs to connect to this “AP”…

That was just a problem of my adapter. I changed it to another and madwifi installed it fine! Thanx!
