D-Link DIR-655. Sharepoint / USB Printer?

Hello,

Anyone had any luck with getting USB devices (printers/storage) to work under openSUSE (or any other linux) with the ‘sharepoint’ option available on some of the D-link products?

Due to my printserver not being all that reliable I thought it would be nice if I could just hook the printer (a samsung ml-2010r) up to the router.
Seeing as it requires some special software to be installed under windows and the google results indicating it just doesn’t work under linux I doubt it works, but if anyone did get it to work… I’d appreciate hearing how.

Axeia;
Have you checked here:
http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Samsung-ML-2010R

Its listed as working “perfectly”

It certainly works perfectly as a printer: we have the ML-2010 and been very pleased with it; even Amazon list it as working with linux!!

Samsung ML-2010R Mono Laser Printer: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

but the ‘sharepoint’ option available on some of the D-link products?

I don’t think there is anything on swerdna’s site that is specific to this

Linux HOWTOs and Tutorials: Suse Linux 10.0, 10.1 openSUSE 10.2, 10.3, 11.0, 11.1

but maybe a winter project for him!

I think you mean Shareport not Sharepoint.
?

and

The point is to get Ubuntu to see that the port exists.
