Cyrillic: question marks in XFCE; OK in KDE and Gnome

I have tried out XFCE 4.6.0 on openSUSE 11.1. When I plug in a USB flash drive (FAT), I get question marks instead of Cyrillic letters for file names. This does not happen with KDE 3/4 or Gnome on the same machine. Searching by Google yielded this page: Arch Linux по-русски: XFCE + HAL = автомонтирование? (in Russian) that suggests to re-build exo, which is overkill to me, and suggests also a solution for Arch Linux. Is there a solution for openSUSE? Can anyone point me to the right direction?

I inserted two usb flashdrives to test and it is fine on opensuse xfce 4.6.

I am happy to hear that you have no problem, but I do, unfortunately, and do reproduce it steadily. Moreover, if I plug in a USB drive under XFCE, this problem persists when I exit XFCE and log in to KDE or Gnome, thus I have to unmount the drive and mount it again, and the problem disappears.

Just for records: if I mount a drive under KDE or Gnome and log out and log in to XFCE, Cyrillic letters are there, but if I unmount the drive and re-mount, I see question marks again.
