Cut off from ethernet attempt to reconfigure network settings

In an attempt to set up a nfs server following the official documentation Reference guide, things got worse when I tried to reconfigure my network settings. Please bear with me for this is still all new to me.

While trying to figure out how to solve the problem with the firewall not being configurable (in Yast/NFS server) and going over every possible solution, like following this guide to install the nfs-kernel-server, this post describing the same problem and following the official documentation, by some stange twist of mind ,reading chapter 22.4.1 of the official documentation, I thought it could be a network settings problem.

When I investigated the network settings in Yast it striked me ass odd that my eth0 connection was not configured. All the while my internet connection was still active. It was after I tried to reconfigure my eth0 connection when I wasn’t able to setup a connection. Did I enter the wrong IP address? I recall from the first configuration that I setup a static IP address. I would alsoo like to mention that I’m on a dual boot system with windows 10 but never had any problem with the internet connection until now.

I have tried a DHCP connection, didn’t work. I 've tried a wireless connection, Didn’t work either. I’m at the end of my resources so please if anybody kwows a solution, any help would be great!

Here’s the output of the sudo wicked show all command:

If ethernet is working, but not configured, that probably means that you are using NetworkManager, which does not depend on your configuration settings.

You can switch to “wicked” in the “Global Options” tab of Yast Network Settings. Then configure the interface. And then switch back if you need NetworkManager for WiFi. However, it should not matter whether it is configured. You may need the interface to be assigned to a zone, but I think you can do that in firewall settings.

Note: I’m now using Leap 15.1, and the firewall settings are different from what they were in 15.0, so I’m not able to easily check what is possible with 15.0. I’ll note that I did switch to “wicked” on my home NFS server, though I’m not sure if that was necessary.

Somehow your instructions seem to work out, although I’m still left puzzled how and where it started to work again. Probably by assigning the interface to the internal zone, although it didn’t work immediately. Alsoo tried switching back to NetworkManager, but it’s working on a wired connection. Anyway, thank you very much! Having no internet connection means not being able to do anything, but now the sky has cleared againrotfl!
