Hey, i am used to customizing the look of linux in Ubuntu, but i want to know how to change the Login screen and the splash screen… anybody know anything?
If you are using gnome you can change the login screen by running terminal, login as root with su then gdmsetup
Splash screen not sure, never wanted to change that so never looked into it. Hopefully someone else will advise you on that.
If you are using KDE3.5 you can change the splash screen with Control Centre > Splash Screen and the login screen with Control Centre > System Administration > Login Manager (Click on Administrator Mode). You can also download login screens from Eyecandy for your KDE-Desktop - KDE-Look.org in their KDM Themes section, they also tell you where to put the files etc.

Never did understand the need to customize the login screen… typically, you
never see it.
Same goes for my desktop… it’s plain black. no point using memory and cpu
cycles to display something that I never see…
There’s a writeup somewhere here in the forums about changing the login and
splash screens, you might search for ‘splash’ or ‘splash screen’

Are you using KDM or GDM?
I would like to know, too. I am using KDM4.
