Customizing Install DVD

Hello,

I wanted to know if there is any way to customize my install dvd, i.e., so that firmware for my wireless card is installed, or programs I use. Thanks

SUSE Studio was made for you, see http://susestudio.com/

Thx for the help, does there exist a free and less extensive solution to my problem. The kind of things I have time to do and am capable of doing is limited, most of the features in suse studio would go unused.

SUSE Studio is free, it just ‘costs’ you to learn how to use it…

by less extensive, do you mean easier?

hmmmmm…so free, easy and quick is all you time for?

maybe if you can outline your exact requirements you could advertise
somewhere (not here) for someone with the ability and time to do it for
you for a set price…otherwise ???

or, maybe someone will do it for you for nothing…(i can’t, because
i’ve never used the free SUSE Studio…and i don’t want to learn it either.)

> most of the features in suse studio would go unused.

unused features don’t cost you any more then used feathers…and you
can just ignore them…

but, there may be many other ways to do what you want which might
require less investment in time to learn or perform…like i’ve seen
question in these fora in the last six months on how to “take apart” a
downloaded iso and customize it, and “put it back together”…but, i
didn’t read the whole thread to see how it might be done (but, i do not
think it is nearly as easy as using SUSE Studio…

you are very welcome to hang out and see if someone knows an easier
way to custom build an install disk…

but, wait–what is it exactly you are trying to accomplish? that is, i
guess your “customize my install dvd, i.e., so that firmware for my
wireless card is installed, or programs I use” is your solution to a
problem…but, what is the problem you are trying to solve…because
someone here may have an easy answer…

for example: say you simply want to minimize the install download…

or, maybe you want to minimize the size of the stuff on the install disk…

or, maybe you want to produce a customized disk to send with 300
customer ordered computers…

or maybe you have a friend with the exact same machine and you want to
hand him/her a disk to make his/her machine exactly like yours…

or, maybe you intend to buy a new machine and want to customize an
install disk so that everything “works right out of the box” experience…

or, maybe you are trying to just make the next machine/install be really
really easy easy…so, maybe you need to buy a machine pre-loaded with
Linux and ready to rock and roll…or maybe buy one preloaded with
Windows and use Windows (hmmm, and learn how to deal with
mal-/crook-ware)…or, if you want to avoid Windows and have easy peasy
then Apple is the ticket to ride…

or, maybe you want an image which will rescue you from a bad mess by
just matching everything you have, exactly as you have it–press install
and walk away and everything is super-duper working again…

or or or…what is it you are trying to do, exactly?

Sorry for lack of info, and I should have searched forums before posting. I quickly looked at the suse studio website and thought that it was not free, once again sorry.

I will find more information about my options so I may ask a question which is more pointed. Thanks for the help.
