Custom Leap micro image

Hello Community,

I am new opensuse/suse user, first of all thanks to all community involved in the opensuse ecosystem, great Linux distribution.

I starting to get familiar with Leap Micro and MicroOS, regarding the general use of the OS I can say that I am quite comfortable as my background is in RHEL/EL.

What I am struggling is with building/deploying a custom Leap Micro / MicroOS image.

On the RHEL side we build our images with Packer/kickstart/ansible.

I am trying to find the best solution for achieving the same outcome in the openSUSE/SUSE ecosystem, from what I have read, kiwi-ng is the tool to accomplish this which should replace the use case of Packer and Kickstart, after we build our images we run some ansible roles mostly to apply our custom based CIS security profile and some other tasks (remove further packages, user management, Observability stack, etc), again from my reading this should be possible to also achieve with kiwi-ng.

Where i am having trouble is understanding how obs works, can some one point me some good resources outside the obs manual, (blog posts, talks ? ) regarding building and maintaining a custom image?

Just have the .kiwi file as part of your package and OBS will automatically invoke kiwi with this file as build recipe. Just look as e.g. Aeon image builder:

Okay, that is quite simple, reading the kiwi-ng documentation I see that is possible to use “user defined scripts” can I also integrate that (to trigger an ansible playbook) in obs ?

The mentioned project includes user defined script config.sh.
