I have downloaded the iso file and listed it in the grub configuration. The iso is in a directory under the boot directory on sda9, my main Ubuntu partition. When I boot, I can select the option to boot with the openSUSE iso. The installation process begins with no problems. During the process, I tried to customize the partitions with the following objectives.
No separate home partition
install openSUSE to the root of sda5
Use sda7 as a swap partition
I abort the installation process because the installation report indicates that it will delete several important partitions, including sda3 (win7), sda8 (NTFS data partition) and sda10 (system rescue cd - gentoo). I cannot find any option which would enable openSUSE to ignore these partitions.
Here is a list of my partitions configuration:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 2048 206847 102400 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 208894 418056191 208923649 f W95 Ext’d (LBA)
/dev/sda3 * 418056192 625141759 103542784 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT
/dev/sda5 208896 41168895 20480000 83 Linux
/dev/sda6 41170944 82130943 20480000 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

/dev/sda10 412530688 418056191 2762752 83 Linux
Any ideas on how to get around this problem?

Hi
In YaST Partitioner, hit the rescan devices button so it doesn’t
provide an automatic solution, then select the drive in the list and
add/modify as required.
