Hi,
I just recently purchased a 4k monitor and also have a full hd tv. I did all the xrandr scaling stuff but nothing was as easy as switching over to Wayland for scaling different values for each monitor.
With X11 I was able to set keyboard input in kde system settings → shortcuts. Trigger Alt+U → Up Alt+M → Down Alt+J → Left Alt+K → Right
I also set home and end to Alt+L and Alt+;
These shortcuts have been pounded into my brain by now.
But they do not work with Wayland. I have set Kwin shortcuts (win + alt+ left for sending a window to other monitor…etc…) and they work great…but not custom shortcuts that send input
Running Leap 15.2, Wayland (not full), Kde Plasma 5.18.5
I have read and read and can’t seem to find a solution and most of the stuff saying wayland doesn’t support it yet are from 2015, 2018 at the earliest. Any info/help would be appreciated.
Without these shortcuts it’s a bit of a deal breaker.
If you don’t mind trying some really, really recently released code,
A fork of Kwin called KwinFT just published its first release within a couple weeks ago.
I haven’t tried it, but an article I read about this looks very, very interesting.
A few highlights
A re-write specifically to support both Wayland and XWayland
Special attention to supporting multiple displays (monitors)
If this fork accomplishes just the above, it’s notable.
The project is looking for people to try their code right now, and likely would be very helpful if you have any issues.
And, if you do work with these guys and it works, don’t forget to report back to this thread…
thanks everyone for the replies.
TSU I would happily try kwinft however it is a PITA to install qt 5.15 so many resolutions etc…
if you give me a clean way to install QT 5.15 maybe I can work with Kwinft. there is a kwinft in the repos
as well as a wrapland and also a libkscreen2-kwinft. Don’t mind compiling but the dependency mess is overkill.
People should know that there are probably more than 1000 optional repos available for all sorts of purposes, some for specific interests (games), topics (scientific, data) and more but probably the most common is to install newer versions than the stable versions in the default repos. You can get newer server apps, but in this case it’s also common to get a newer version of KDE and its components… some only slightly newer but some also that are truly experimental.
