cups-pdf not in repository

I’m installing tumbleweed opensuse. I went to YaST and searched for cups-pdf. Not Found. I went to the online Package Search and got an error

Error connecting to http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/suse/setup/descr/appdata-86c7f26f7065aabfbabf52ef0e7d5f9e.xml.gz: Response was: #<Net::HTTPNotFound:0x00000007440d48>

I have searched and read this page https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Printing_to_PDF#Download_and_install_the_cups-pdf_package. And it seems I need to add another repository for PRINT and TUMBLEWEED.

I’m new to tumbleweed. Is there a list of these additional repositories somewhere for tumbleweed?

Way back when, I remember going into YaST -> Configurations -> Repositories, and when you clicked Add, and maybe Community, a whole list of additional repositories showed up. This doesn’t seem to be the case any longer. I didn’t see PRINT, anyway. Am I looking in the wrong location

The ability to print as a pdf is automtically set-up when tumbleweed is installed. I have just checked the installed rpm’s on my system and I do not have a cups-pdf one but when press the print button the pdf option comes up. The pdf facility seems to be installed from the ‘poppler’ family of rpm’s.

Ahhh, the application’s have the ability to print PDF. You are right, there it is in Kate File -> Print -> Name dropdown.

But there is no pdf queue, nothing in cups (http://localhost:631/printers), thus no “lpstat -s”.

How do you print a pdf from the command line?

The online Package Search is working today, and there is a cups-pdf for Tumbleweed in a home repository. HHHmmm…

I added the tumbleweed repository listed here: https://build.opensuse.org/project/repositories/Printing and installed cups-pdf. When done, I made the repo priority 200 and dis-enabled (unchecked) autorefresh, so it should stay out of the way unless needed. I went through the cups installation and all works.

This is my first experience with Tumbleweed. I was surprised it wasn’t in the std repositories.

Are there other Tumbleweed special-purpose repositories?

Can anybody comment why there is no cups-pdf in the official repo? I don’t want to install anything from somebodies home repo, but desperately need a pdf-printer?

Is there a pdf-printer in the current Suse 12? In the meantime I think about buying a license, the Tumbleweed/Leap is becomming increasingly frustrating…

Hi
Because the package is beta more than likely, ask the maintainer in Printing repository to push it to factory (they may not wish to maintain there…)?

The package is not in SLE either.

Many thanks for your reply! For TW 32/64 bit the only source is

home:openschoolserver:cups-pdf

according to

https://software.opensuse.org/package/cups-pdf

…so not even in the Printing repo (would have less problems with adding the “official” Printing repo to that machine).

Hi
Your search must be flaky;

https://software.opensuse.org/package/cups-pdf?search_term=cups-pdf

https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?project=Printing&package=cups-pdf

http://www.cups-pdf.de/

Hi!

In TW there is no Printing repo under Cummunity repos.

Have a look at the links you posted:

Only for AARCH64 (sic!)there is cups-pdf in Printing, for 32/64bit TW there is cups-pdf only in a home repo!

I see it also in all printing Repos…
Also for 32/64 Bit…

So you think I should install a Printing repo from another distribution, e.g. 42.1 in my TW?

No, as others tried to tell you already, it is available for Tumbleweed i586 and x86_64 too.
There’s a glitch on the search page though, you need to click on “Unsupported Distributions” first, you’ll find a second “openSUSE Tumbleweed” in there.

Or use Install package Printing / cups-pdf

Wow, thank you!

Found in the meantime this here:

https://de.opensuse.org/Paket_Repositorys#Drucken_.28Printing.29

…installed the TW printing repo and found CUPS-pdf package.

One problem solved! party

PS: Why is there no list of community repos in TW when I start installing a new repo in YaST?
