I am going to start a new thread here because after some troubleshooting
it seems the problem lies with CUPS, opensuse 13.2, or both.
I have an Epson XP-610 “small in one” printer. On my other laptop which
runs 13.1, I using the manufacturer-PPDs rpm which came with the oss
repository, it found and Epson XP-750 series driver which worked, and I
am able to print both by wireless and by usb cable connection. It has no
problem printing in either mode.
I just installed 13.2 on my new laptop, and I cannot get the printer to
print. When I shut down the firewall, I was able to detect the printer,
but it would not print a test page from yast. I tried installing and
reinstalling and installing different drivers, the 32 bit driver, and
various other incantations, and it would not print a test page from
yast. You can see my logs on this thread:
https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/505288-connect-Epson-XP-610
I was able to get a test page printed when I looked at the CUPS on my
localhost http://localhost:631, but there was a problem, a big problem.
Everything it prints it splits between 4 pages. All would fit on an
8.5x11, but instead it prints from the middle of the page the 4 corners
of a normal page on 4 separate pages.
Again I tried all the different drivers, and I even downloaded the
driver from the 13.1 repository, because it works fine on my other
laptop, but nothing would change. No test page printed from yast, the
test page from the html interface splits into 4 pages, and all other
pages split into 4 pages.
I know this cannot be a problem with the driver, because in using the
driver on my 13.1 laptop the pages all print just fine like they are
supposed to. So I think there must be a problem with CUPS in 13.2 that
somehow doesn’t work well with this printer.
Anyone know how to begin troubleshooting this problem? I really need to
be able to print from this new laptop.
