Crusader Kings II Black Map on Steam

When I was on Kubuntu two weeks ago, this game worked fine with my Intel 4000 GPU–which has open source derivers by definition, as far as I know. When I changed over to openSUSE I installed Steam from the repositories and installed the game. But when ever I start it I ge black maps. I found a thread (http://goo.gl/2Cl6n) which says the issue is with S3TC compression, so I installed Mesa-libtxc_dxtn1 (as well as other packages such as libsquish, libtxc_dxtn, lintxc_dxtn_s2tc and libtxc_dxtn0 from the Tumbleweed repositories , any of which I think should have taken care of the S3TC issue. Unfortunately for me, it didn’t. :frowning:

Now I am using opemSUSE 12.3 Tumbeweed with kernel 3.8.6-2-desktop.

Does anyone have any advice as to taking care of this issue? Steam is only supported on Kubuntu, so I was wondering how I can determine which package I am missing between Kubuntu and openSUSE to resolve the issue. I am prtty sure it is a package issue since it worked on Kubuntu.

After a week of looking, I found the solution:

export force_s3tc_enable=true ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Crusader\ Kings\ II/ck2

Booyah!
