cron[26764]: *** stack smashing detected ***: terminated

After an update this weekend the message below has occurred instead of successful script runs.

cron[26764]: *** stack smashing detected ***: terminated

It occurs for user accounts running a crontab for their own scripts. There is no issue running the scripts manually. It does not occur for a crontab run as root.

Does anyone know what this is?

I tried restarting the cron service first. That was all it needed.
