Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Suspend/Hibernation

I’m starting a new thread on this subject since I can’t find anything ANYWHERE online. I have the X-fi Xtreme Gamer working under ALSA but I cannot get sound working after a suspend or hibernate.

Stopping Alsa in Pm-Utils fails since several modules are in use.

/etc/init.d/alsasound stop
Shutting down sound driverERROR: Module snd_pcm is in use by ctxfi
ERROR: Module snd_timer is in use by snd_pcm
ERROR: Module snd is in use by ctxfi,snd_pcm,snd_timer
ERROR: Module snd_page_alloc is in use by snd_pcm

Trying to modprobe unload each of the modules gives the same error. It’s not a big problem but one I want fixed.

So big question after all this is: how do I get my xfi suspended and restarted after hibernation?

I’m on 11.1 with KDE 3.5.

I’m sorry I don’t really have an answer to your problem – but can you please tell me how could you get that card to work in openSUSE in the first place? I’m trying to install the driver from the creative website and am going nowhere. Keeps on giving error messages :frowning: Strangely the same driver works fine with Linux Mint!

Great… will try once I’m home.

Thanks for the link!

[LEFT]Right, does anyone who is using the Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer been able to get it working again after suspend to RAM/Disk? I’m annoyed at this because I want to be able to use my Suspend again and have a fully working pc afterwards.

Trying to restart alsa gives me this:

sudo ./alsasound restart
Shutting down sound driverERROR: Module snd_pcm is in use by ctxfi
ERROR: Module snd_timer is in use by snd_pcm
ERROR: Module snd is in use by ctxfi,snd_pcm,snd_timer
ERROR: Module snd_page_alloc is in use by snd_pcm failed

Starting soundriver                                                                                                                                                   done

I can’t seem to be able to unload ctxfi at any stage. Getting annoyed at it. I’ve googled a lot but can’t seem to find anything. Can someone point me towards how to unload ctxfi on suspend and reload it on thaw? Pretty please?

I am sorry that I cannot directly answer your question, but if I can comment that

You seem to have done very well to get this sound card running on the creative drivers; others are quite critical of these drivers;

this alternative was recommended in a recent posting;

4Front Technologies

and I am not sure if any Suse users have installed it
