I have a Creative SB Live! 24 sound card. I installed SuSe 11. But the OS couldn’t recognize the card. I think it is not supported by SuSe. Please help me solve the problem!
Open a terminal, run:
/sbin/lspci
Copy paste the results for the soundcard here - this will tell the exact model of the card.

Curious - the Audigy LS should work “out of the box”.
What does YAST / Sound say about the card?
If you use GNOME -> Computer -> YaST (On the right) -> Sound
If you use KDE4 -> SuSE button -> Computer -> YaST -> Hardware -> Sound
Does it recognize the card but you get no sound?
“Does it recognize the card but you get no sound?”
Yes, yes. It’s my problem. Please help me.
Are you using KDE 3.5?
Click on the speaker, bottom left next to the clock and click on
“mixer”
Now click on the tab labeled
“Switches”
Make sure that the switch,
“Audigy Analog/Digital”
is enabled, make it glow yellow.
Sorry, I’m using GNOME for SuSe 11.
I made a tutorial a while ago for GNOME/KDE/KDE4.
Please take a look here:

Are you certain you have the same device? A different audio controller is being detected above.
If this is a separate card, please ensure the card is properly “seated” in the PCI slot in your PC. You could try switching the motherboard audio off (in BIOS) to see if the PCI sound will function.
Does this Creative SB Live! 24 function in another OS (such as MS-windows) on this same PC ?
If you get the card recognized, but are unsuccessful in getting audio, then please work your way through the opensuse audio troubleshooting guide SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE
When adjusting your mixer, don’t forget this guide:
[Solution] Creative Audigy 1/2 + 11.0 + KDE/GNOME + ALSA - openSUSE Forums](http://forums.opensuse.org/hardware/386773-solution-creative-audigy-1-2-11-0-kde-gnome-alsa.html)
If that does not work for you, can you provide us some more information on your sound setup?
With your PC connected to the internet, please open a konsole and copy and paste the following diagnostic script:
wget http://home.cfl.rr.com/infofiles/tsalsa && su -c 'bash ./tsalsa'
when prompted for a password please enter your root password. Please try accurately enter the number of jacks/plugs you have. For example on my PC I have 3 audio Input/Output plugs. When the script completes it will give you a URL. **Please post that URL here.
**
Also, please copy and paste the following, one line at a time in a konsole, and post the output here.
rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep pulse
rpm -q libasound2
cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound
uname -a
Also, please use the following as a test (copy and paste this) for sound functionality (note it is case sensitive):
speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
Note the above assumes you get your sound card recognized by your BIOS (which it does not appear to be currently).
