creating my own static IP

HOW DO I SET MY OWN STATIC IP ON SUSE?

I think you need to clarify what you mean.

YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS UNTIL YOU FIX YOUR CAPS-LOCK!!!

WHY?

BECAUSE “IP” OR “IFCONFIG” WON’T WORK AS LINUX IS CASE SENSITIVE!1111!!!

Hi cirebrains45, welcome to the forums.

I see you’re brief and to the point. Unfortunately, a bit too brief.

The short answer is: code in by hand the IP addresses for the Network Interface, for the Gateway and for the Name Servers.

The long answer begins like this: it depends whether you’re using Network Manager in KDE or in Gnome -or- if you’re using a wired ethernet card and Yast’s network configurator module.

So please tell us (in lower case) what your setup is.

A bit of reading for background: HowTo Configure a network card in Suse/openSUSE 10, 11 for LAN and Internet Access.

HMMMMM, I WONDER IF YOU HAVE A STATIC IP DESIGNATED BY YOUR ISP…OR,
WHAT?

-=welcome=- to our forum…have you been using Linux long? are you now
using SUSE or openSUSE, and do you know the difference?
