Creating LDAP server : where to obtain TLS certicate

Hello,

A quick one (I hope).

I’m about to create my first ever LDAP server. The dialogue to do so says the security options are optional but I would like to find out how to obtain a TLS certificate.

I’m currently using Leap 15.1. Would 15.2 be preferable?

  1. Maintain your own certificate authority (self-signed certificates fall into this category)
  2. Buy your certificate from one of official certificate authorities
  3. Use free CA service like Let’s Encrypt

OS version is not really relevant (except newer cryptographic library versions may support modern encryption standards and hopefully have more bugs fixed).
