Creating a boot CD

I am running OS 11.3 and I want to create a boot CD so that if my boot partition is moved I can still boot from the boot CD and re-initialize grub again. Is there some easy to use utility which will enable me to do this ?

The original 11.3 install disk is also a “Grub rescue” disk in essence. It’s probably all you need.

If you installed with live cd:

Boot live cd>open terminal and run:

su
grub
find /boot/grub/stage1

Write the output down. We will assume it was (hd0,1). Then:

root (hd0,1)
setup (hd0)

If you have the dvd version, just select the repair option at the boot menu to go to a command prompt, and run the above commands. You can do this with any live cd, but distros that use grub2 by default will not work unless you install grub from the live cd. There is also the handy super grub disk. It will try to fix linux/windows boot loaders. Super Grub Disk Homepage

Thanks for the handy information. I have a DVD and will follow your instructions.

As far as SGD I will look at it.
