Crash when pressing alt-tab

Hi,

Using openSUSE 11.1 with enabled desktop effects, the GUI hangs when I

  • press alt-tab and use Application Switcher, or
  • use the Windows Picker.

Static Application Switcher works fine.

Installed packages:

Dmesg output at pastebin post #1298593.

Could you guys help me with this? Thank you in advance.

Almost forgot: Ctrl-Alt-Backspace helps in most cases but sometimes I have to switch off the computer as it totally freezes.

Xorg.0.log output is at pastebin post #1298609

Tell me if you need more logs/configs/etc.
Thanks.

same happens to me in 11.1 too :-/

I think I send a bugreport then. Funkolas, could you paste here the same information as I did?

You can see the required commands for the package versions in my first post.
For dmesg, enter “dmesg > dmesg_out.txt” to the console.
Xorg log is at: /var/log/X11/Xorg.0.log

Could be you can fix this with newer compiz packages (using X11 repo) and clearing out your current compiz config.

See here for more info : CyberOrg » Compiz on openSUSE 11.1

Hope that helps,
Wj

thx, I’ll try that later!

It worked?
I have the same problem here!
I’ve posted a topic here about that, I didn’t see this one!

Thanks!!

I tried this but now my X refuses to start, after the splash screen I have only the text mode =//

I have the same issue. Shall I upload these logs as well?

Dmesg here : general pastebin - cloud9ine - dmesg - post number 1333338
Xorg.0.log here : general pastebin - cloud9ine - Xorg.0.log - post number 1333340

Noticed nvidia in the tags and just wanted to clarify I am on an ATI 4670 (or something like that)

I have the same problem, my videocard is GeForce 9600GT. This bug preventing me to use opensuse( but it’s the best linux i ever seen

I have the same problem. this only happens when I use compiz

found this thread searching… i have the same problem :frowning:

so nobody ever found a fix for this?

:frowning:

i’d bet if you turn off desktop effects it would be ok…

OR if you don’t use KDE4, it would be ok…

OR if you update to 4.2.x it would be ok…

now, since you didn’t say: what ARE you running?

Hi,

Try updating your compiz packages to 0.8.2. I looked at that CyberOrg link and I’ve gone that route through the community repositories and never could get compiz working like that.

Here’s a thread where scaling was solved with updating to 0.8.2.

opensuse11.1 compiz windows scaling/selection - openSUSE Forums

To upgrade to compiz 0.8.2 please follow the instructions from this thread:

Compiz hell ? Need help - openSUSE Forums

Take Care,

Ian
