Crash running ssh from VM

I have been trying out Leap 16 running in a VirtualBox VM on a Leap 15.6 host which runs KDE plasma.
If one attempts to ssh from the VM to the host, the system crashes. ssh to any other destination works correctly.
I have 3 systems running 15.6 Two of them were updated (zypper up) on October 13. The crash only occurs on the two that were updated, on the 3rd system there is no crash. Before Oct. 13, none of the systems crashed. Looks like there was something bad in that update.

Nature of crash:
ssh connects ok, prompt for password occurs, crash happens immediately after password is entered. If host KDE is running on X, screen goes totally black and unresponsive; Alt-F1 will switch to a terminal session which can be used to reboot the system. If KDE is running on wayland, the screen does not go black, the system becomes totally unresponsive to any keyboard or mouse actions; have to power off the machine to recover.

This is not a problem with Leap 16.0. The same thing happens if the VM is running kubuntu. It’s a host 15.6 problem.

Surprisingly, sftp from VM to host worksssh-keygen -R orcinus.westgrid.ca -f /home/ian/.ssh/known_hosts ok with no problems.

Any suggestions?

sorry that got garbled at end, and it won’t let me edit. should say ‘Surprisingly, sftp from VM to host works ok’

I am not having any problems using “ssh” from a VM (with Leap 16.0) to the host running 15.6.

One difference, though, is that I’m using KVM rather than VirtualBox for the VM.

Has your 15.6 system been updated on or after Oct. 13?

Yes. I updated today. And that was before testing “ssh” from 16.0.
