openSUSE 12.1 KDE 4.7.4 NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-295.20.run xorg 7.6_1.10.4-36.2.1 kernel 3.1.9-1.4-default
X server freeze every time on logout with kde4-kdm but same thing happens with kde3-kdm.
When it happens, ctrl+alt+F1 doesn’t work, monitor shuts off after 10 sec and I need to use reset switch.
Doesn’t happen on reboot, shutdown or “init 6” from console, only on logout.
Also kde4 panel task manager tries to draw closed windows but that’s another story.
Same problem with both sysvinit-init and systemd-sysvinit, happens everytime on logout.
Also hapens when X is restarted from kdm, display is messed up and the system won’t respond to keys.
Only way to make it work is x11failsafe parameter but then resolution drops from 1680x1050 to 1024x768
Perhaps missing nouveau could be the source?
Starts happening on the new 12.1 system, as soon as nouveau is removed and nvidia bin installed.
Using standard fixes such as 50-blacklist.conf, nomodeset, no KMS and driver installation from init 3
What chip you’re using? This might be hardware specific, read this thread for more info.
Still no solution as far as I know, but it’s not really high priority bug, unlike some security issues.
