CPU Type, Intel Celeron...

Hello, I am wondering what cpu type I should select when compiling/configuring a new kernel.

I have an Intel Celeron (Coppermine)

Architecture: I386
BogoMIPS: 1326.26
Cache: 128
Family: 6
Model: 8
Stepping: 6
Flags: fpu, vme, de, pse, tsc, msr, pae, mce, cx8, sep, mttr, pge, mca, cmov, pat, pse36, mmx, fxsr, sse, up

I am compiling for openSuSE 11.1, under Processor Family, I have these options:

( ) 386
( ) 486
( ) 586/k5/5x86/6x86/6x86MX
( ) Pentium MMX
( ) Pentium-Pro

I am trying to get the most performance out of this old 667mhz desktop, but dont know which selection would be best, the help in make config don’t quite tell me which one I should use. I am assuming I should select “Pentium MMX” or “Pentium Pro”.

Thanks in advance,
Jorge

Hi Jorge,

The ‘586/k5/5x86/6x86/6x86MX’ should be your selection. It’s the regular 32bit choice for modern x86 bit systems.

Cheers,
Wj
