Hi Everyone,
I have a 2.5Ghz Intel Dual Core Processor Socket 775 in my machine. My friend gave me a 2.4 Intel Quad Core processor Socket 775 and I want to know if I replace my CPU with the Quad Core will it still work with my current openSUSE 11.4 64-bit installation? I already know that the Quad Core is compatible with my motherboard.
Your advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks

i do not know for absolute certain, but i think it should ‘just work’,
if your bios accepts it…if i were you i’d:
read my caveat below
check the board maker’s site for potential bios update needs
back up all data to an off machine media
install the CPU (correctly apply high quality thermal grease)
clean out all chicken bones, cat hair, etc while cover is off
let’er rip, potato chip!

Thank you,
I wil give it a try and see what happens. I am not too worried about data loss, I have all my data backed up already on an external drive.
Kind regards

An take a look in BIOS setup before booting the OS.
