CPU Fan Control

Hello,
this has been discussed several times here, but I could not find a definitive answer.

I am a dinosaur still using OpenSUSE 13.2 KDE, but many packages have been retro-fitted by myself to work to stay up to date. I do believe that whatever would be solution for me on 13.2 will be used for LEAP 42.* and vice versa.

In short version, I wish to have control over my laptop fan, such that it runs at certain % of max speed, or certain RPM corresponding to certain temperature.

I do have lm-sensors installed, but a lot of solutions and threads regarding this, often leading me to dead end because the solution provided only works for an older version of OpenSUSE, or whichever link that it refers to no longer exists.

Could someone help me out here please?

I do remember setting something up in Gnome environment while using Linux Mint or Ubuntu many years ago, but heating has never been an issue for me until recently.
Thank you.

Hi
Depends on the hardware, which is? Do you see fan speed from the output of sensors?

Hello Malcolm, after a little bit of wrestling, I got everything in working order in the end. I can log the method here at some point.

It is Lenovo T430, obvious choice of fan control was thinkfan. Thinkfan originally was overridden, so after a little bit of searching, I made thinkfan to be forced to run under
/etc/init.d/boot.local

The fans and temperature were all picked up properly under sensors. I also modified the heck out of thinkfan configuration, because my T430 is an unusual combination.

It has i7-3***qm core, which is not part of standard T430 configuration, and also 1600x900 screen which is not stock either. It is expected to overheat without special touch up. Windows seems to compensate for it, but linux, I have to force it.
