Running Suse 11.1 Linux 2.6.27.19-3.2-default x86_64 KDE4.1.3
e6750 OC’ed to 3.2 | 4 Gigs of ram
has been running XP for over a year 1/2 no problems.
Have 3 SATA ( AHCI mode ) drives on Intel ICH9R
Fresh install, only installed Nvida drivers, wine and Vmware 6.5 so far
When copying from C: (old windows NTFS) to D: ( Suse 11.1 ) the CPU goes to full 100%. Swap and memory usage are low. Only time CPU goes full, no other problems any other times.
Any Ideas?
Happy to provide any additional information.
Well I suppose it’s “normal” when copying from and to NTFS partition. It’s a ntfs-3g driver issue. I’m getting about 30-60% CPU when copying and system is very slow in that moment.
Believe you are right. Did some more looking and stumbled on the ntfs-3g site and it looks like thats how its going to be as far as transferring my files over. Well worth it, loving this OS. Wish I had made the switch sooner.
Did some experimenting and found a workaround.
I made a ext3 partition on the 3rd disk E: and pulling files from C: ( Windows) to E: is less CPU intensive( Suse is on D: ).
Transferring them from the E: ext3 partition to my home on D: is Much less strain on the CPU. It barely went over 80% and that was with me flipping tabs on firefox and quickly switching between desktops trying to push it. Where before I couldn’t even use firefox at all, had to wait until the files completed to use the computer again. Thankyou for the response. Glad to know it was something simple.

are you kidding, it also confuses those with lots of Linux experience,
but little in M$…
