Could not refresh repo error

What does this mean?

Refresh failed: . Error: refusing unsigned file repomd.xml Error: Could not refresh repository ‘Packman Repository’: Valid metadata not found at specified URL(s) History: - Signature verification failed for repomd.xml

I got this as I booted up this morning. Any clues?

Do a zypper refresh (as root of course) and accept the Packman key when prompted and it should be fixed.

Thanks. what’s the command for zypper refresh? I’ll use for future reference.

I rebooted and that solved this problem.

zypper refresh

in a terminal window

I’m having the same error as of late last night. Although, I had updated just fine earlier in the day. I’ve even tried changing to a different packman repository to no avail. I guess we wait and see…

It’s quite simple, the Packman Repo-key has reached it’s lifetime limitation on 09/17/08 so you have to go to the Repo management and delete the old key of Packman then use the refresh function and when first ask about the missing signature say the first time “yes” and the second one if you are ask for importing a new key file. That’s it!

Ciao, Momo!

Thanks for the info.

Momo, how exactly, do you do this?

I have been getting this error since yesterday, and would like to fix it.

Thanks

Yast -> Software -> Software Repositories, click on GPG Keys, highlight
Packman and hit delete. When it asks if you are sure click yes. That is
what I believe Momo 77 was talking about.

I deleted the key and closed out the then went back to the Pacman listing and hit refresh. Do I have to reboot? I’ll give that a try.

A reboot is not required, it’s because the key is used only if a refresh takes place.

69_rs_ss: That’s the way I thought. There is an other one with the commandline tool zypper, look into the manpages for details.

Hope it helped. Momo

I rebooted anyway and this morning there are no update errors.

Now today I get this error message again…

Refresh failed: . Error: refusing unsigned file repomd.xml Error: Could not refresh repository ‘Packman Repository’: Valid metadata not found at specified URL(s) History: - Signature verification failed for repomd.xml

What am I missing?

I went back to the keys and I don’t think it’s there. How do I get the pacman key back? something’s not working.

You have to read the notification YaST gives you when starting the software management. It’s all in there.

It states that a file from that repo was not signed, hence you either don’t care and work with an unsigned repo, which is a security issue, or you wait until the packman maintainers fix their repo.

If they fixed it and you open the YaST software management it will ask you to import the key and after that you will find it in the list again.

I’ve had the same problem for a few days. But whan I type zypper refresh I get the error saying access denied. presumably I need to be in root, but I can’t remember how to do that.

Help !!

you can gain root permissions using ‘su’, ‘sudo’ or ‘gnomesu’/‘kdesu’ (which depends on your GUI).
e.g.

sudo zypper refresh

Thanks, but now I get:-

… skynet/packman…

Media not found.

Packman’s new signing key is now available. It does not expire until 09/21/2010.

…today I got this message:

Refresh failed: . Error: not trusting key ‘[45A1D0671ABD1AFB-48d62ce0] [PackMan Project (signing key) ] [F8875B880D518B6B8C530D1345A1D0671ABD1AFB]’ Error: Could not refresh repository ‘Packman Repository’: Valid metadata not found at specified URL(s) History: - Signature verification failed for repomd.xml

I thought I took care of this problem, obviously not. What do I need to do to correct this error message?
