Correct trans command error

Using XFCE desktop.

Installed translate-shell. Using trans I get…

I suspect it’s because trans only wants to process ASCII characters as input although it outputs non_ASCII charcters. But since the CLI accepts Greek characters from the keyboard and display them, shouldn’t the software do likewise?

Any suggestions to correct this would be appreciated.

I do not know the program, but doesn’t it come with a man page (or other documentation)?

I assume there must be a way to tell it that that argument must be interpreted as being encoded in UTF-8.
