I copied a youtube flv file from /tmp to a home directory. And i noticed the sound quality is different ( a little buzz here and there). I tried
zypper dup -r vlc
and there’s no update, then i tried
zypper dup -r packman
and the output is

I’m confused with the package management using zypper here and why is there a difference in quality between the copied youtube flv file and the buffered video in firefox? Can someone help me?
Sounds like your multi-media is a mess
Did you follow this:
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums
I came up against this sort of error like yours before, I think I just deleted transmission whilst I made the switch (dup) and used the radio buttons to get packman on everything
ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing
You must disable the VideoLan repo!
Ok I tried following the steps Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums and deleted transmission common. Now I get this for zypper dup -r packman

I’ve installed the vlc package and the other packages, while removing vlc repository as well.
But what about the other problems?
Ok i followed each step from the top in “Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums”](http://forums.opensuse.org/information-new-users/new-user-how-faq-read-only/407184-multi-media-restricted-format-installation-guide.html#post2058613) and reddwarf’s how-to. Thanks!
But I do have another new problem though. I tried playing a dvd movie recently and there seem to be no detection whatsoever. And I tested that dvd at a Windows Vista laptop and it works out fine. Do note that other dvds work out fine, just that particular dvd. Is it a hardware fault? Or did I miss any packages? I’m using a 2 months old laptop. What is the problem here?

When you say, no detection. What if you go to the File Menu in VLC and open Disc/DVD?

That’s OK
Tricky these sound issues. Trial and error.
I guess you could switch any RedDwarf packages to Packman and then disable it ATM, because I only included it for gecko-mediaplayer which was broken at one point.
Make sure you have done

Transmission is a problem. Package versions on Packman are not complete. Search for ‘transmission’ in the software installer, look at the version numbers. So stick to the obsolete ones for now, newer versions will appear.
BTW buffered video is never very good, especially flash video, usually sounds like a bag of flies.
What about this when I try switching system packages to Packman repository?

Ok done. But what about the undetectable DVD?
Does this happen with all DVD’s
Eg; suse dvd?
Definitely not. Just that particular DVD.
Horses for courses.
Can you rip it with k9copy? (packman)
Tested it with k9copy. Same result.
Can’t you even read it’s contents in dolphin?
What is is this strange DVD…
Try this
