I’m running openSUSE 11.1, with KDE 4.3.00. My Kopete, version 0.70.90, disconnects and reconnects to my jabber server several times a minute. I was just wondering if anyone knew of anything that would help alleviate the problem.
The jabber server, running the latest version of Openfire, is on the same gigabit subnet as the openSUSE machine in question. I can successfully connect to other IM services (MSN, Yahoo, etc) with no trouble. I also have no trouble with any other network service, from NFS to IMAP. I have other (Windows / Miranda IM) clients connecting to this same jabber server, all without trouble.
Any ideas? It drives me nuts, and it drives everyone else on my buddy list nuts too, as they see constant offline/online notifications for my user.
My drastic suggestion. For what it’s worth. (And consider that due to all the crud that is likely floating around in your system - there is likely going to issues doing this.) I would delete all your repo’s and add back just these:
Well I don’t want to take any drastic action at this point… if it comes down to that, I’ll just wait for openSUSE 11.2 to come out, since we’re getting close to a full release.
What do I want to be running? Well, KDE 4.3.x. Maybe the Factory binaries are as good as it’s going to get for 11.1. I don’t know. I do know I don’t want to be running the older KDE 3 (I’ve really grown to like v4), nor do I want to run GNOME. And I really prefer Kopete over Pidgin and some of the other Linux or multi-platform IM clients.
It’s a dependency thing. If I could have just upgraded the KDE core and left Kopete at the KDE 4.2 level, I may have done that. But YaST insisted that in order to keep Kopete, and upgrade KDE, I had to go with the KDE 4.3 version of Kopete.
Having the same problem here, not as often. Kopete disconnects the 5 seconds later it reconnects. Local jabber server on 11.1. Running kopete with XFCE on 11.3. So far, I am the only one having the problem. Other users are using KDE on 11.3 there kopete does not seem to be having any problem.
