Console Type Booting Up - OpenSuse 11.4

Guys,

  1. I have edited my /etc/inittab to bootup in runlevel 3. Now no X.
  2. I have removed the --noclear entry in /etc/inittab as well. Bootup messages now cleared when login prompt appears.

All ok.

I would like to;

A. change the message " Welcome to OpenSuse 11.4 ,etc, etc " which appears above the console login prompt to something of my
choice? like “Welcome to Home Server” . Any ideas how to do this ?

B. During the bootup, i still have the opensuse green background + frog on the top left hand corner. I would prefer just a black console type background. I have edited /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash and changed SPLASH=“yes” to SPLASH=“no” and also commented out THEMES.

But upon rebootup, the background image is still there. Is this becos i have grub running in graphical mode? How do i get rid of this green background image? ( besides replacing that image with a black one? ). Any ideas how to do this ?

Solved by editing /etc/issue.

Solved by commenting out the line with gfxmenu in /boot/grub/menu.lst
