Connectivity Timeline

I do NOT trust CloudFlare’s statistics, and would not use it. It seems folks are mesmerized to use CloudFlare … I showed in a previous Reply, 3 different speed test services and CloudFlare was worse.

I guess if you want to complain to your ISP, you could submit a CloudFlare example, to convince them to fix your speed issues

As a comparison, I have the “500Mbps speed + unlimited internet data” plan and it’s $65.00 USD a month (fiber) and you can see my speed results in a previous reply.

You might want to contact your ISP and complain :+1:

10.4 down is what I had from cable ISP 20 years ago. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve taken the liberty to conduct yet another internet speedtest. This time with the actual Internet service provider test here which is CenturyLink.

The results are slower now.
The modem/router in use is a ZyXEL PK-5001z. The modem GUI page claims 15.2 Mbps down and 1.84 Mbps up using ADSL2+ Broadband mode. Is it possible speeds could increase by using another modem/router model type?

DSL performance in the USA is highly dependent on location. Your tests suggest you live in an unfortunate location. Have you investigated wireless “cable” broadband, from AT&T, T-Mobile & others? If you qualify for it, and are appropriately located, you should expect 50Mbps or better down, or much better, depending on provider, location, and plan selection. If you try wireless, be careful not to get bit by a data cap you can’t live with.

Here are my numbers. Having a symmetrical 1 Gbps fiber connection is really nice:

$ speedtest-cli
Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Testing from [provider] (x.x.x.x)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by [server] ([location]) [46.90 km]: 47.182 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 742.57 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed......................................................................................................
Upload: 655.25 Mbit/s

A little slower than usual, must have a TV stream going or something uploading/downloading.

Replaced 3.0 modem with 3.1: 289/84=3.44, roughly 3.5X as good.
